2008 Season CHANGES in Formula One

F-1 season is all set to take off in Melbourne tomorrow(March 16).A lot of changes have been made by FIA(Federation Internationale de Automobile). Some of the changes has led to many debates in the Formula One Circuit.Major rule changes include a ban on traction control(TC) and the use of a standard Electronic Control Unit(ECU) on all cars.Until now,the traction control(TC) which prevents wheelspin contributed around 80% to the success of a start for the driver and leaving just 20% to his ability. It’s now going to be the other way around. The rest of the changes are given below

1.Improved driver protection:Taller cockpit are made mandatory now.

2.Engines:The engines should last for two consecutive races.

3.Gearboxes:A penalty of five grid places if the gearbox is replaced within four consecutive races.

4.Tyres:Each driver is supplied 14 sets of tyres over each race weekend supplied by the official supplier Bridgestone.the 14 set is split into seven dry-weather,four wet and three sets for extreme weather.

5.Control Electronincs:All cars to use Electronic Car Unit supplied by McLaren Electronic Systems and Microsoft.
